Akisha or Baby Akhie, 2 years and 6 months old baby from Catanduanes, Philippines was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia, a rare disease of the liver and bile ducts that occurs in infants. When a baby has biliary atresia, bile flow from the liver to the gallbladder is blocked. This causes the bile to be trapped inside the liver, quickly causing damage and scarring of the liver cells (cirrhosis), and eventually liver failure. Symptoms of the disease appear or develop about two to eight weeks after birth.
Baby Akhie needs to have a Liver Transplant that costs around PhP 1.8 million, which must be done in India as soon as possible. Her family is asking for financial assistance to help them with medical and daily needs of Baby Akhie.
Since three (3) days of life, Baby Akhie's skin has shown yellow discoloration. She undergone several tests and was diagnosed with swollen spleen and liver enlargement. Upon learning the condition, her family went to several hospitals in Manila like Philipine Children's Medical Center (PCMC) and Philippine General Hospital (PGH), only to be rejected due to Measles outbreak and influx of patients in said hospitals. They have finally been admitted in the National Children's Hospital where Baby Akhie is receiving medications since she was three months old.
