Before Super Typhoon Haiyan devastated Tanauan, Leyte, the town already gained the glamorous brand - "Skimboarding Capital of the Philippines". It somehow boosted the tourism industry of Tanauan in a short period of time. Post-Haiyan landscape was not favorable to this brand until it faded due to reasons like unrecognized skimboarding activities, minimal to zero promotion, and low support from the community.
Equipped with robust leadership and management expertise, the Skimboard Coalition, is passionate to revive the brand and with a sense of providing an avenue for engaging, inclusive solutions and practical strategies. More significantly, the Coalition intends to align this initiative to the development priorities of the municipality and the entire Province of Leyte - promoting ecotourism development and advancing environmental protection.
This program is called REVITALIZING THE TANAUAN BRAND TOWARDS PROMOTING ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND ECO-TOURISM DEVELOPMENT or Skimboarding Capital Brand Revival Program (SCBRP). This entails mobilization of key stakeholders; conducting engaging activities that will propel ecotourism development, environmental revival and protection arrangements; and policy review, development and advocacy.
The direct beneficiaries are:
a) Communities residing in the shorelines of Tanauan
b) skimboading and water sports enthusiasts and fans.
Secondary beneficiaries are the people of Tanauan in general,. This initiative is expected to build numerous livelihood opportunities revolving around eco-tourism which will potentially provide services and products to potential tourists from all over the world.
The fund to be raised will contribute in covering the following core activities:
1. Meetings & consultations with key stakeholders, and community or association organizing;
2. Social marketing activities;
3. Conduct of various events (e.g., skimboarding competition, search for Skimboarding Capital Ambassador, etc);
4. Clean-up drives along the shorelines, underwater (to clear remaining debris brought by Supertyphoon Haiyan), and riverways going to the beaches;
5. Seed fund for more fundraising activities.
WHEN IS THE FUNDING NEEDED?
The Tanauan festivities honoring Our Lady of Assumption will be on August 1-15, 2019. The coalition plans to complement some of its planned activities with that of the local government unit. Hence, some of the funds will be needed before the start of August 2019.
The support from various donors globally will provide relevant results and long-lasting impact not only to Tanauan but also to its adjacent towns. We will be collectively shaping a model where branding is used as a tool for greater development objectives.
It will not only be our team that will be grateful to all the donors but also the People of Tanauan, and Leyteños in general. We will make ways to include you (donors) in every step of the way as a display of our gratitude.
